ROOTS is an student government agency dedicated to uniting the University of Florida’s multicultural organizations through welcome assemblies and the reestablishment of historic transition programs. Our mission is to celebrate and elevate the diverse backgrounds and cultures of our student body through intentional programming. By highlighting multicultural identities across campus, we aim to foster new experiences, strengthen cultural competency among all students, and promote community and inclusion as core values of our university.

  • Adelante

    ¡ADELANTE! is a college transition program at UF geared towards Hispanic-Latine Freshmen and Transfer students! With this engaging weekend experience, you learn all about the different organizations UF has to offer, such as the Hispanic-Latine Student Association (HSA) and all of its affiliate orgs, as well as various resources such as the Department of Spanish-Portuguese Studies, the Institute of Hispanic-Latino Cultures and more! Join us for an exciting weekend of Latin music and fun activities!

  • FiND

    FiND (Forming Opportunities through Networking and Development) is an early arrival transition program that takes place before the start of the academic school year, designed to help incoming Asian, Pacific Islander, and Desi-identifying students begin their UF journey with confidence and community. Through peer mentorship, cultural bonding, and workshops tailored to the first-year experience, students not only gain a head start on navigating college life, they also find a home. While FiND centers the experiences of APIDA students, the program is open to all incoming students who are interested in identity, connection, and building lifelong friendships. Many participants leave FiND feeling more grounded, empowered, and seen, and we can’t wait to welcome you into the family!

  • Horizons

    Horizons is a two-day transition program that helps incoming LGBTQ+ students make friends, connect with the local queer community, and learn about everything UF has to offer. The program is designed to give attendees strong start to their college experience and will benefit any LGBTQ+ students who are starting at UF this year!

  • PAACT

    PAACT is a three-day transition program designed to support incoming freshmen and transfer students as they navigate the Black experience at the University of Florida. This immersive weekend will kickstart your journey at UF with a strong sense of community, confidence-building activities, and connections that last. Student can expect mentorship, friendship-building, engaging workshops, and plenty of music and dancing. Come be part of three unforgettable days that will leave you shouting, “PAACT, where you at?!"

  • Black Student Assembly (BSA)

    The Black Student Assembly (BSA) is a welcome event hosted at the start of each academic year by the Black Student Union. It serves as a cultural kickoff to the year, designed to unify, inspire, and inform Black students about the many opportunities, resources, and organizations available to them on campus. Through powerful performances, dynamic conversations, and engaging community moments, BSA creates a space where students can feel seen, celebrated, and empowered to begin their year with purpose and pride.

  • Asian American Student Assembly (AASA)

    The Asian American Student Assembly is a UF Welcome Assembly dedicated to celebrating Asian American culture, community, identity, and heritage! This annual event features an exciting lineup of videos and dance performances that introduce the diverse Asian American student organizations at UF, including cultural, professional, social, and Greek organizations. AASA serves as a powerful way for students to connect with the vibrant Asian American community on campus. Open and welcoming to everyone of all backgrounds, the assembly strives to spotlight and uplift representation, creating one of the most dynamic and inclusive showcases at UF.

  • Hispanic-Latine Student Assembly (HLSA)

    The Hispanic-Latine Student Assembly (HLSA) is one of the University of Florida’s largest and most anticipated cultural welcome events, hosted each fall by the Hispanic Student Association (HSA) in partnership with Student Government (SG).

    Designed to inspire, connect, and energize, HLSA celebrates the rich diversity of Hispanic and Latine cultures through powerful guest speakers, dynamic musical performances, and meaningful community engagement. Open to all students, this event serves as both a warm welcome for incoming Gators and a joyful reunion for returning ones.

    In 2023, HLSA welcomed over 700 attendees—and we’re excited to keep growing in 2025. Whether you’re looking to get involved, explore your identity, or simply celebrate culture and community, HLSA is an unforgettable way to begin the school year.
